On Thursday, January 5, social media was awash with news of the passing of famous LGBTQ crusader and model, Edwin Chiloba.

The model was brutally murdered and his lifeless body stuffed in a metallic box, and dumped along the Kipenyo-Katinga Road in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County.

Chiloba was a model who showcased in big stages and earned fame through his activism towards LGBTQ.

Here is his story as narrated by WoK.

Background

Edwin Chiloba was born and raised in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to Plug TV, the departed model was raised  by his father following the death of his mother at a young age.

The father played the role of both a mother and father, until his death while Chiloba was in high school.

He scored a B- in his KCSE exams.

Fashion

Following completion of his secondary education, Chiloba joined Moi University West Indies Campus (now closed) to pursue a degree in Education.

It was during his time at the institution when he realized his love for fashion, and it was at this point when he ventured into modeling.

The attires he wore, albeit creative, attracted backlash with some, including his family members, labeled him satanic.

Chiloba dropped out of the university and moved to Nairobi where a friend had offered to sign him in his modeling agency.

While at the modeling agency, the model invented mind-blowing designs which saw a sponsor come to his rescue and enrolled him in a fashion school.

By the time he met his death, Chiloba was a student at the University of Eldoret (UoE).

Attack

Four months before the discovery of his decomposing body, Chiloba had been attacked and injured.

According to Nairobi News, people who were reportedly against his LGBTQ involvement pounced on him baying for his blood.

Although he managed to escape, Chiloba suffered a large cut on his lips, a cut on the upper part of his face and bruises all over his face.

Gruesome murder

Chiloba was brutally murdered with his body stuffed inside a huge metallic box and abandoned in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County.

According to witnesses, the metallic box was dumped by a vehicle which had a concealed number plate at around noon.

Police officer were alerted and when the box was opened, they found Chiloba’s decomposing body dressed in a woman’s clothes.

The body was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, awaiting post-mortem.

Last moments

Chiloba was last seen in public on New Year’s Eve in the company of his friends at a local entertainment joint in Eldoret.

According to a video widely circulated online, the model was seen having fun alongside his two friends.

Chiloba was found dead in the same clothes he wore during a New Year’s eve party.

His death has attracted calls for speedy investigations into the death of the model, who many have said was targeted for his gender choices and activism.
