Elias Mwaura: How Passion for Tech Led to Establishment of Thriving Software Company with Branches in Nakuru, Nairobi

Elias Mwaura is the founder of Primesoft Solutions Limited and Maliplus Integrated Software Suites.

As a young adult at Maseno University, he found himself captivated by the realm of technology.

While pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Mwaura engaged in various projects related to the systems he was studying, primarily as a way to occupy his time.

It was during these leisurely explorations that he created software designed to help startups manage their operations, particularly in the area of accounting.

Unbeknownst to him, this seemingly straightforward software would serve as the cornerstone for Primesoft Solutions Limited.

After graduating in 2007, Mwaura chose to focus on developing systems for businesses rather than accepting traditional job offers.

“With a capital of Ksh 5,000, Primesoft Solutions Limited was registered and commenced operations without any employees or a physical office,” he said.

Mwaura noted that necessary software in business functions as a crucial instrument for organizations, providing a variety of features aimed at monitoring income and expenses.

“The finest software boasts of a comprehensive suite of reports, empowering businesses to conduct in-depth assessments of their financial well-being,” he stated.

The software must also incorporate intuitive dashboards that provide immediate, high-level insights into essential financial metrics, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, historical sales figures, and cash flow.

In 2015, Mwaura faced a significant challenge when he incurred a loss of Sh 4.5 million due to unpaid sub-contracts.

This event led to a strategic pivot towards the development and marketing of their own solutions, resulting in the establishment of Maliplus Integrated Software Suites.

These suites serve various sectors, including real estate, savings and credit, motor bazaar management, and supermarkets, and have been effective in addressing clients’ issues promptly and efficiently.

Over the years, Mwaura’s unwavering commitment has evolved the company from a modest operation with him as the sole employee into a leading software firm with branches in Nakuru and Nairobi, employing over 20 individuals both directly and indirectly.

“This has enabled us to serve organizations in the country and the neighbouring country Tanzania and we hope to expand further across the region,” he said .

Mwaura expresses ongoing concern regarding the excessive taxation on technological solutions mandated by the government, which obstructs businesses from fully adopting automation.

He urges young software engineers to pursue innovation and adjust to the ever-evolving technological environment.

“Being innovative and staying ahead of the curve will enable you to excel in this ever-evolving field, setting you apart as an industry leader,” he said.
