Otieno Eugene is a youth leader from Bulemia village in Butula Sub County, Busia County.

He has made it his mission to improve the lives of vulnerable families including widows, widowers and orphans.

Otieno disclosed during an interview that his election as the youth chairman of Butula Sub-County motivated him to engage in community outreach efforts.

The challenges faced by the underprivileged members of the community inspired him to take proactive measures.

“After I got the post as a youth chair of Butula Sub-County, I decided to help improve the lives of our people,” he stated.

Otieno has successfully constructed 13 homes for widows in Busia and has supplied food provisions to numerous families.

Additionally, he extends his support to widowers lacking caretakers by offering essential household items such as blankets and mattresses.

As an advocate for education, Otieno assists orphans by covering their school fees and providing uniforms.

Given the significant number of children requiring assistance, he facilitates connections between some of them and potential sponsors.

For young orphans without guardians, Otieno collaborates with local orphanages to ensure their admission and well-being.

To accomplish the extensive scope of his work, he engages supporters within the county through advocacy efforts.

Otieno has assembled a network of 50 associates who gather resources allocated to various projects.

“My job is to lobby and uplift the poor and vulnerable people in our midst. In case we hear of a family in need, we reach out and help them,” he added

Otieno is presently assisting 50 young individuals in enrolling in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, equipping them with skills that will enhance their lives through self-employment.

Furthermore, he advocates for internship opportunities for local youth within the county to explore digital prospects.
