Eight engineering fanatics from the Netherlands have built the world’s longest bicycle.

The bicycle which measures  55.16 metres (180 ft 11 in), it’s around the same length as two blue whales or four double-decker buses.

According to the Guinness World Records, the previous record was set in 2020 by Bernie Ryan from Australia, whose bicycle measured 47.5 m (155 ft 8 in).

Ivan Schalk aged 39 led the team in building the bike.

He said was always his dream to build such a bicycle as a child.

“I’ve been thinking about the idea for years. I once received a Guinness World Records book in which I came across this record.” He said.

The record previously has been broken several times with the first being in Germany in 1965.

Since then record holders have included people from various countries.

Those include New Zealand, Italy, Belgium, Australia, and two teams from the Netherlands.

The Dutch engineering enthusiasts faced several challenges before achieving the record.

“Building the bicycle was a long process, interrupted for nearly two years by the COVID-19 pandemic.” Guinness World Records reported.

Meanwhile, a record-breaking cow named Viatina-19 FIV Mara became the most expensive cow sold in an auction.

The Brazilian Nelore cow is worth $4 million (KSh 517 million) according to the Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records said the amount the cow was sold can buy a mansion or a fancy apartment overlooking Central Park in New York, USA.

It can fund travel around the world or one can stop working for the rest of his/her life.
