Applying for a Smart Driving License in Kenya is a straightforward process that can be completed online.
Introduced by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in 2018, the Smart Driving License is a digital license that replaces the traditional paper-based license.
It is issued for a period of three years and features a chip that holds the driver’s information, facilitating a demerit point system to promote responsible driving.
That said, note that the Smart Driving License offers several benefits, including international standards in driver licensing and identification and enhanced road safety through the demerit point system.
In this article, WoK takes you through simple steps that you will need to follow to apply for the Smart Driving License.
How to apply for a Smart Driving License
Follow the steps provided below when applying for a Smart Driving License;
- Go to https://tims.ntsa.go.ke/ on your browser and log into your TIMS Account by entering your Username or ID number and password.
- Click Get Code and a verification code will be sent to your phone.
- Enter the verification code and click Sign In
- Click on Driving Licence and select Apply for smart driving licence
- Fill in the required details. Check to ensure your details are correct then click Next
- Click Pay; you will be redirected to make a payment. Select your preferred payment method and pay Ksh 3,050
- After making the payment, click Complete to finish the process; you will be redirected to a page with your invoice which you can download in PDF Format.
Once you are done with the application process go back to the menu and click Smart DL Appointment and book an appointment with NTSA at your preferred centre.
They will collect your biometrics and personal information and once your NTSA Smart DL is ready, you will be notified via text.
