How to Apply for New Digital Number Plates

On August 30, 2022, the Kenyan government introduced a new generation of number plates for all vehicles in the country.

The new plates are digital and have a variety of security features, including microchip technology that may be used to identify both the car and its owner.

The plates also have anti-counterfeit elements like a hologram, watermark and unique serial number, making it difficult to create counterfeit plates.

The plates also have a QR code that, when scanned, provides access to vehicle information such as registration status and insurance.

In addition to their security features, the new number plates are attractively pleasing as they feature a sleek, futuristic appearance, with a black and white front plate and a black and yellow back plate.

The plates also include the Kenyan flag and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) emblem.

While the new number plates are provided to all newly registered vehicles, existing vehicles may apply for the new plates at a cost of Ksh 3,050.
