Germany introduced the Opportunity Card, a new immigration policy that will go into effect on June 1, 2024, to help alleviate the country’s serious labor shortfall.
The Opportunity Card allows qualified professionals from outside the European Union to move to Germany without a job offer and stay for up to a year while looking for full-time work.
You can apply for the Opportunity Card at either the Foreigners’ Registration Office or the competent German mission abroad in your place of origin, such as the German Embassy.
How to get the Opportunity Card
The Federal Government has simplified admission conditions for prospective workers from non-EU countries by introducing a new resident title.
To receive the Opportunity Card, simply demonstrate that you have finished at least two years of vocational training or a university degree, as well as basic understanding of German (A1) or English (B2).
You will be responsible for financing your own living expenses in Germany.
If you meet these fundamental standards, you can utilize a points system to determine the qualifications you require.
To work in Germany, you must acquire at least six points.
Advantages of the Opportunity Card include easy and fast entry into Germany, possibility of permanent residence, securing your livelihood with a good income and guaranteed work permit.
