In the wake of massive protests over the Finance Bill and high cost of living, President William Ruto is expected to engage the youth in an X, formerly Twitter, Space on Friday afternoon.
According to a poster shared on the Head of State’s social media platforms, he will host the Space from 2PM to 5PM.
For starters, X Spaces is a feature on X that allows users to engage in live audio conversations, and anyone with an X account can join, listen and speak.
Spaces are public, so anyone can join as a listener, including people who don’t follow the host or co-host of the Space
Up to 13 people, including the host and 2 co-hosts, can speak at any given time.
Additionally, users can schedule Spaces, invite listeners to become co-hosts or speakers, and request permission to speak from the host.
How to join X Spaces
Below is a step to step guide on how to join and listen to an X Space;
Step 1: Open the X app on your mobile device
Step 2: Look for the purple icon with circles, indicating active X Spaces or look for a particular Space you want to listen to
Step 3: Tap on the Space to join the conversation and start listening to the discussion
Once you’re in a Twitter Space, you can participate by:
- Reacting to others’ remarks with emojis or text-based messages
- Requesting to speak by tapping the hand-raising icon when the host allows it
- Sharing the Space with your followers by retweeting it or sending invites directly
It is important to note that to join an X Space you must have an active X account – here is how you can create an account;
Step 1: Visit X on your web browser or download the official app on your mobile device.
Step 2: Tap Create Account to start making a new profile. You can also sign up on X with your Google or Apple ID.
Step 3: Enter your name, email address or phone number, and date of birth, then click Next.
Step 4: X will send a verification code to your email or phone number. Enter this code to verify your credentials.
Step 5: Create a password that’s at least a combination of eight letters and numbers.
Step 6: Add a profile picture and choose a unique username (your @handle).
Step 7: Select topics and accounts to follow that are relevant to your interests. Follow at least one account to get started.
Step 8: Customize your profile by adding a banner image, bio and adjusting your account settings.
That’s it! You now have a new X account ready to start connecting, sharing and engaging with the community.
