The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is looking for secondary school teachers who are available and competent and who are awaiting swaps or transfers to temporarily redeploy them to junior secondary schools (JSS).

All TSC regional and county directors were instructed by TSC Secretary and Chief Executive Dr. Nancy Macharia to thoroughly assess secondary school teachers who are waiting to be transferred or swapped within their regions in a communication dated July 19.

The TSC is currently scouting for willing instructors to temporarily redeploy to JSS while their requests for transfers or swaps are being handled.

The move is in a bid to address the severe teacher shortage in JSS.

“It has come to our attention that a significant number of teachers in secondary schools have applied for transfers or swaps and are currently awaiting placement

“While their requests are being processed, the ongoing teacher shortage in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) presents a critical challenge to the effective implementation of the Competency-Based-Curriculum (CBC).

“To address this issue and optimize the utilization of available human resources, I hereby direct all Regional County Directors and Country Directors, TSC, to undertake a comprehensive review of teachers awaiting transfer or swap within their respective jurisdictions,” read a memo.

In carrying out the directives, the TSC requests that its directors identify eligible teachers, consult and engage with them.

They are also required to coordinate and collaborate with relevant departments to ensure a smooth redeployment process to JSS.

Additionally, these directors are required to monitor and evaluate the redeployment implementation.

Reports on the implementation process must be filed by August 8, 2024.
