Joyce Omondi has a unique style of music and can’t be pinned to one specific genre. Her songs explore different genres, such as, smooth jazz, reggae, neo, soul and Western. The celebrated singer learnt to play piano and singing and started performing early in life at church gatherings in Woodley, Nairobi. Later, she became part of the church choir.
After coming back to Kenya, she released her first hit song “Conqueror.” The song is about her father who was injured in the 1998 bomb at the former United States Embassy in downtown Nairobi. It captures his visits in and out of the hospital and how the family got through that difficult period.
After quitting Rauka, she stayed out of the limelight for 6 years and made a comeback with a show called “Full Circle with Joyce” on switch TV. This is a lifestyle-based talk show that seeks to highlight matters lifestyle, marriage, parenting, health, career talk, food travel and style. She shared the following message
“ It’s been 6years since I got on air and the show am doing really is a dream. Because I’ve been looking at how I can have a platform to talk with young people. To do all these other light fun things but still infuse my faith and this show I am doing, is it” revealed the singer during an interview on Switch TV’s chatspot.
Joyce also explains that the long absence was because she was pursuing her master’s degree. There were many opportunities afterwards but she was waiting for the right one:
“ There have been opportunities that have come along but I personally believe that it’s very important to understand that not every opportunity is the right one. And its wisdom, it is discipline, and its self-love and value to know which opportunities you should take and which ones you should leave behind,” She added.
The show airs every Monday to Friday on Switch TV from 8 AM – 9AM.
The God fearing lady is married to the Citizen TV Presenter Waihiga Mwaura. Waihiga was love struck upon meeting Joyce but she appeared not interested at first. The lovebirds got married at Sawela lodge in Naivasha on 18th December 2015. Joyce thanked her mum for making the celebration a success and her best friend for designing the gorgeous gown she wore. This is the couple’s 5th year in marriage and they believe marriage works but it takes work.
