Joyce Omondi Biography, Education, Career, Marriage, Songs and Awards

Joyce omondi Waihiga is an award winning Kenyan gospel musician and TV show host. She is beautiful, graceful and to crown it all-intelligent.  Joyce came into the limelight while hosting the celebrated Citizen TV show “Rauka.” The musician is also a private person who shy from controversies.

Details about her age are not in the public domain. 

Education

The songstress is educated in Kenya and the USA. 

She attended Knox College in the United States between 2006 and 2010. Her major was in Economics and Integrated International Studies (IIS). While at the University, she was a sophomore senator, Knox ambassador and also part of the Harambee choir.

Career

Upon returning to Kenya, she co-hosted the popular gospel show, “Rauka.” In 2013, she quit the show to pursue a master’s degree in International Development at the Georgetown University in Washington. 

Music Career

Joyce Omondi has a unique style of music and can’t be pinned to one specific genre. Her songs explore different genres, such as, smooth jazz, reggae, neo, soul and Western. The celebrated singer learnt to play piano and singing and started performing early in life at church gatherings in Woodley, Nairobi. Later, she became part of the church choir.

After coming back to Kenya, she released her first hit song “Conqueror.” The song is about her father who was injured in the 1998 bomb at the former United States Embassy in downtown Nairobi. It captures his visits in and out of the hospital and how the family got through that difficult period. 

After quitting Rauka, she stayed out of the limelight for 6 years and made a comeback with a show called “Full Circle with Joyce” on switch TV. This is a lifestyle-based talk show that seeks to highlight matters lifestyle, marriage, parenting, health, career talk, food travel and style. She shared the following message 

“ It’s been 6years since I got on air and the show am doing really is a dream. Because I’ve been looking at how I can have a platform to talk with young people. To do all these other light fun things but still infuse my faith and this show I am doing, is it” revealed the singer during an interview on Switch TV’s chatspot.

Joyce also explains that the long absence was because she was pursuing her master’s degree. There were many opportunities afterwards but she was waiting for the right one:

“ There have been opportunities that have come along but I personally believe that it’s very important to understand that not every opportunity is the right one. And its wisdom, it is discipline, and its self-love and value to know which opportunities you should take and which ones you should leave behind,” She added.

The show airs every Monday to Friday on Switch TV from 8 AM – 9AM.

Marriage

The God fearing lady is married to the Citizen TV Presenter Waihiga Mwaura. Waihiga was love struck upon meeting Joyce but she appeared not interested at first. She turned down his birthday invitation but once her first song  was released Waihiga upped his game and started tweeting her publicly. One thing led to another and they started dating away from the limelight.

The lovebirds got married  at Sawela lodge in Naivasha on 18th December 2015. Joyce thanked her mum for making the celebration a success and her best friend for designing the gorgeous gown she wore. This is the couple’s 5th year in marriage and they believe marriage works but it takes work.

Awards

The former Rauka host won Groove Awards for best video category

In 2019, she was nominated for best TV host for her show “Full Circle with Joyce”. She was shocked and grateful for the nomination and promised to make the show better.
