The untimely death of celebrated athlete Kelvin Kiptum, who was widely considered to be the successor to Eliud Kipchoge, has left one of the biggest voids in the athletics world. 

WoK takes a look at the amount of money Kelvin Kiptum made in his short yet illustrious career in the world of athletics. 

Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Chicago, IL-08 OCT 2023

Kelvin Kiptum took the pole position and went on to break the world record in a time of 2:00:35. From this exceptional feat, the athlete made $100,000 (approximately Ksh15 million) and additional $50,000 (approximately Ksh7.5 million) for setting the course world record. 

TCS London Marathon, London-23 APR 2023

The Nike sponsored athlete continued his fine form when he clocked 2:01:25 in the London Marathon. Winners in this race $55,000 which translates to approximately Ksh8,2 million. 

Maraton Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP, Valencia-04 DEC 2022

His stellar performance saw him crowned the winner in a time of 2:01:53. In this race, Kelvin pocketed $80,000 (Ksh12 million). 

Accumulatively, the athlete made approximately $285,000 from the three marathons he won. This translates to Ksh42 million if the prize money from the Kenyan government is not factored in and other endorsements. 

Half Marathon 

The athlete won the Le Lion Montbéliard to Belfort, Montbéliard half marathon in France on 29 SEP 2019 in a time of 59:53. 

He emerged 8th in Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon, Marugame in Japan in a time of 1:00:57 on 02 FEB 2020. 

Kiptum participated in the Copenhagen Half Marathon, København emerging eleventh on 15 SEP 2019. 

08 MAR 2020 he took position two in the NN CPC Loop Den Haag, Den Haag in Netherlands in a time of 59:59.
