The Kenya High School has a rich enviable history when it comes to good consistent performances in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Kenya High was first known as the Nairobi European School in 1910 when it was established as a co-educational school. In 1931, the school became an only girls school. Four years later, it was renamed The European Girls Secondary School until 1939 when it became The Kenya High School. It was not until the 60s when the first African and Asian girls were admitted. Ann Mithamo became the first African to be admitted in the institution.

First African Headmistress

Mrs R. Kariuki was the first African Headmistress in the National school after Miss Barnes retirement. She was replaced the same year with Mrs. M. W. Wanjohi who served in the position until 1999 when she handed over the management of the school to Mrs. Rosemary Saina. She was the Headmistress until 2015 when her deputy Mrs Lucy Mugendi took over the running of the school. The current Principal Mrs. Flora Mulatya took over in 31st December 2015.

Mrs Flora steered the institution to enviable heights. In 2019, Kenya High scored 76 As out of the 315 students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in the institution. This was the highest number in a single institution that year.

And the institution’s good run continued in 2020 when the institution produced six candidates among the top 15 nationally. Mrs. Mulayta credited the stellar performance to prayers, teamwork and good support from parents.
