The internet has been awash with stories of a killer cop on the loose. Police officers are enforcers law and order and when they break the law they are supposed to uphold, it makes for news headlines. Caroline Kangogo has been a newsmaker after killing two men. Prior to these murders, the police constable had no disciplinary issues. Here is what Prudence Minyao was able to gather about Caroline Kangogo.

Caroline attended Nyawa Primary School and later joined St Alphonsus Mutei Girls Secondary and scored a C- (minus) in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations.

According to multiple news outlets, corporal Caroline was married to a senior police officer who is not attached to the station and was also in an illicit affair with one of her victims, John Ogweno. This was confirmed by an officer who worked at the station and wished to remain anonymous.

The police officer’s father, Barnaba Korir, is a retired police inspector who together with his wife Leah Kangogo have pleaded with their daughter to surrender to the authorities and avoid more bloodshed. Speaking to the Standard newspaper, Mr Barnaba urged her daughter to surrender:

She joined the police service on 15th August 2008 and before the heinous crimes she has committed, she was a court orderly.

Alleged murders
John Ogweno ,28, a police constable who was attached to the crime office in Nakuru Central Police Station was found dead on Monday morning, 5th July in his car. His firearm was found missing and Caroline was suspected for the murder as she went missing soon after. The deceased was a graduate with Bachelor of Commerce degree who had been transferred to Nakuru six months ago from Kericho.
In another incident police in Kiambu reported that she had spent the night with Peter Njiru Ndwiga, whose body was found at a hotel room in Ruiru. The DCI said that she lured the man into the room she had booked earlier in the day, before savagely shooting him at point-blank range. She walked out of the premises at midnight on the pretext of buying toothpaste.
“She later emerged from the room at around midnight and fled to an unknown destination, leaving the dead man’s body sprawled on the bed,”
The 32-year-old victim owned a security firm in Ruiru known as Superb Security Group.
A statement on the murders from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations read:
“Detectives are looking for a female Police Officer who has gone berserk and is on a killing spree. Corporal Caroline Kangogo, the suspect behind the killing of Police Constable John Ogweno, in Nakuru, has shot dead yet another man in cold blood.
“The suspect who is armed and dangerous has been on the run since early yesterday morning, after she killed constable John Ogweno, who was based in Nakuru. We are cautioning members of the public especially men to be on the lookout for the rogue officer, ho is luring men to her trap before executing them in cold blood. Let nobody trust her since she is armed and dangerous….”
The suspect is said to be in Kisii county preying for his next victim, police have reported. It is not clear what her motives are.
