The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has collaborated with the Kenya School of Law (KSL) to roll out a new programme tailored for students who attained a C grade in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
KUCCPS for the first time has opened applications for the Diploma in Law programme at KSL, offering students who previously thought a legal career was beyond their reach the chance to enrol.
Form Four leavers who sat their KCSE between 2000 and 2024 and wish to pursue a career in law are encouraged to apply for the course, which was previously limited to students with a C+(plus) and above.
This new partnership marks a first for KSL, allowing C students to enter the legal field through a structured Paralegal Training Programme.
“This is a testament to the growing confidence that training institutions have in the KUCCPS system, which is transparent and efficient,” said KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, during the launch at the KUCCPS offices in Nairobi on Monday, February 10.
The Paralegal Training Program equips learners with essential legal knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for roles such as investigation officers, court clerks, legal assistants, and case management officers across the public sector, private sector, and civil society.
The program also targets professionals from various fields seeking basic legal knowledge for personal and professional growth.
KSL Director Dr. Henry Mutai highlighted the growing demand for skilled paralegals in Kenya’s legal system, emphasizing that the launch was timely to address this critical need and enhance legal support services.
“This program equips students with essential legal skills to support the justice system. Through this partnership, we are making legal education more accessible and impactful,” he added.
It aims to equip learners with fundamental legal skills to support legal practitioners, instill proper ethical responsibilities, enhance communication skills, and develop problem-solving abilities essential for paralegal roles.
How to Apply and Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C (plain) with at least a C+ in English or Kiswahili.
The programme runs for two academic years, divided into three 12-week terms per year, culminating in a three-month attachment at the end of the second year.
Qualified applicants will be required to pay a first-year tuition fee of Ksh.131,000, payable in three installments: Ksh.47,000 for the first term and Ksh.42,000 for both the second and third terms.
In the second year, the total tuition fee is Ksh.136,000, payable in three installments: Ksh.47,000 for the first term, Ksh.42,000 for the second term, and Ksh.47,000 for the third term.
The programme caters to both regular students and working professionals, offering evening virtual classes for those with job commitments.
The KUCCPS application portal (https://students.kuccps.net/) opened on 24th January 2025 and will close on 14th February 2025. Prospective applicants are urged to apply without delay, especially those interested in joining the Diploma in Law programme for the May 2025 intake.
KSL joins 17 other public institutions outside the Ministry of Education in integrating with the KUCCPS placement system, including the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, and Kenya Forestry College.
