Politicians are considered some of the most learned individuals in Kenya. With the general elections looming, Kenyans want to elect a highly qualified leader who will be able to effectively govern this country. Most Kenyans have always wondered the kind of schools these politicians attended. Well, worry no more because in this article WoK highlights the schools attended by Kenyan presidential candidates.
Raila Odinga
Raila Amolo Odinga is the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who was the first Vice President of the Republic of Kenya. He served as Kenya’s prime minister from 2008 to 2013. He is currently in the 2022 presidential race under the ODM political party ticket. Raila attended Kisumu Union Primary School, Maranda Primary School and later joined Maranda High school for his secondary education. After clearing his high school he joined ‘Herder Institute’ in the University of Leipzig in East Germany in 1962 He then secured a scholarship to the Technical School in Magdeburg where he graduated in 1970 with a mechanical engineering degree.

William Ruto
William Ruto is the current Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya having served in the position since 2013. He is in the 2022 presidential race under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket. He attended Kerotet Primary School before joining Wareng Secondary School for his ordinary level education. He later joined Kapsabet Boys High School in Kapsabet, Nandi County for his Advanced education level. He then joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Degree in Botany and Zoology where he graduated in 1990. He later enrolled for a masters in the same institution to specialise in Plant Ecology where he graduated in 2011. He later enrolled for a PHD at the same university where he graduated on 21st December 2018 to effectively earn himself the ‘Dr.’ Prefix name.
Musalia Mudavadi
Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi is Kenya’s former vice president during the late President Moi’s regime and served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012. He is in the 2022 presidential race under the Amani National Congress (ANC) political party. Mudavadi attended Nairobi Primary School before joining the prestigious Nairobi School for his A levels. After completing his secondary education, he joined the University of Nairobi to pursue an undergraduate course in Arts, Land and Economics. After graduating with his degree, he enrolled for a Masters in Land Economics at the same institution.

Kalonzo Musyoka
Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka was the tenth Vice president of the republic of Kenya having served from 2008 to 2013 under the President Mwai Kibaki’s regime. He is in the 2022 presidential race under the Wiper political party ticket. Kalonzo attended Tseikuru Primary School before joining Kitui High School for his O-level education. He later joined Meru School to pursue his advanced level education where he finished in 1973. He later joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a law degree and graduated in 1977. He continued with his legal studies and graduated with a Post graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 1978. He later attended the Mediterranean Institute of Management in Cyprus where he graduated with a Post graduate Diploma in Business in 1979.
Gideon Moi
Gideon Moi is the son of Kenya’s second and longest serving President Daniel Arap Moi. He is the current senator for Baringo County and Chairman of the Kenya African National Union (KANU). He is in the 2022 presidential race under the KANU Political party ticket. He attended Kenton College Preparatory School for his primary education before joining St Mary’s School for his A levels where he studied together with President Uhuru Kenyatta. He later joined Strathmore University in 1977 to pursue economics where he graduated in 1980. He later joined the prestigious university of Salford in the United States where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.

Jimmy Wanjigi
Jimmy Wanjigi is a renowned businessman with wealth amounting to billions of shillings. He is in the 2022 presidential elections under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket where he is expected to face tough competition from the incumbent Raila Odinga. He attended Woodley preparatory school before joining St Mary’s High school to pursue his secondary education. In 1982 he enrolled at University of York in Canada where he left before graduating. He later joined Daystar University where he graduated with a degree in Business economics.
Alfred Mutua
Alfred Ng’ang’a Mutua is the current governor of Machakos county. He is in the presidential race under the Maendeleo Chap Chap political party. He attended Toi Primary School in Kibera before joining Dagoretti High School for his O level studies. He later joined Jamhuri High School where he pursued his A level education. After completing his secondary education, he joined Whitworth College in America where he pursued a Degree in Journalism. He then enrolled for a Masters in Communications at the prestigious Eastern Washington University in America. He later did his PHD in Media and Communication at the University of Western Sydney in Australia.

Kivutha Kibwana
Professor Kivutha Kibwana is the current Governor for Makueni County. He is in the 2022 presidential race under the Muungano political party ticket. He attended Ndundune primary school before joining Machakos School in 1969 to 1973 where he pursued both hos O and A levels secondary education. He then enrolled for a Bachelor’s Degree at the university and graduated in 1976. He later went to the University of London and George Washington University where he pursued his masters and PHD in law respectively. He then went for further studies at the prestigious Harvard University where he graduated in June 1984 and effectively earned himself the ‘Professor’ title.
