Leon Lidigu: NMG Journalist Wins Global Award

Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist Leon Lidigu has been feted at WHO/ICFJ Violence Against Children Reporting Contest 2022.

The health and science journalist emerged third in the competition for stories published between September 1, 2022 and October 16, 2022.

The first story; Away from ARVs, I just want to die highlighted the pain and suffering of teenagers living with HIV/Aids.

In the story which was published on Daily Nation’s Healthy Nation section, the teens blame their parents for not disclosing that they were born with HIV/Aids.

It also highlights the plight of teenagers from broken families who are facing different forms of child abuse from their parents dealing with alcoholism.

Lidigu was also feted for a story about a 16-year-old girl who is raising a newborn baby after being defiled by a 20-year-old man.

The story titled; Teen gives birth, blames lack of contraceptives was also published on Daily Nation’s Healthy Nation.

Lidigu was awarded a cash prize of Ksh 74,000 and a trophy.

This comes a week after, NMG senior health reporter, Angela Oketch was awarded for her efforts in advocating for family planning among the less privileged.

Oketch was feted at the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) held in Pattaya Thailand.
