Lotan Salapei: From Earning Ksh5,000 Per Month To Becoming Top Radio Presenter

Lotan Salapei is a presenter at Homeboyz Radio. He is also a much-sought after MC who has hosted various shows including the screening of Kyallo Kulture season 2, Showmax’s Faithless show, and shows by Abel Mutua and Njugush. Before fully venturing into radio, he worked in Rwanda and also volunteered at an FGM rescue center in Samburu.

Here is what WoK has gathered about the ever fresh radio presenter.

Education

Lotan graduated with a Bachelors degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from Daystar University. Speaking on the Glow Up YouTube channel with Makenna, he said he used to raise fees working in the United States.

He would travel to the US, work for a while and get enough money to pay for his university fees.

Career

After graduating, he interned for a company that was paying him Ksh5,000 a month. He got a better opportunity but his boss at the time asked him to persevere for a while as he worked something out for him.

The patience paid off as he connected him to a job in Rwanda that paide him Ksh250k monthly. He became a program manager at Rwandan League for the promotion and Defense of Human Rights.

Later, he came back to Kenya but was too qualified to land a job. Most of them offered way less what he was earning.

He then moved to Samburu to volunteer at Samburu Girls Foundation. Here, they worked with girls rescued from FGM and he went on to become their teacher of English.

Homeboyz

In one of his visits to Nairobi, he attended an event and was called to MC. He gave an exceptional performance not knowing that Myke Rabar and Gmoney were watching. They liked what he did and this is how he found himself working at Homeboyz radio.

Initially, he was a sports presenter on Fan zone once a week before moving to drive show. At first, he went to stand in for Mike Wachira who had Covid-19; but later stayed on. He hosts the Boyz Club show alongside Kerry and the two have garnered a huge fan base.

In April 2023, he announced that he had landed a role in Supersport TV network’s All Access Crew show. The show takes viewers behind the scenes in various clubs around the world.
