Lucy Maina has gained fame for her role in the popular Citizen TV show, Becky. The popular local soap opera has gained an enviable fanbase with millions tuning in to watch the masterpiece every week.

Here is the story of Lucy Maina as told by WoK.

Background and Education

Born and raised in Nairobi, she is the only girl in a family of five children. During an interview with Pulse, she revealed that she started her education at Green Cottage Academy in Kiambu.

She went on to join Gathirimu Girls for her high school education and developed an interest in acting.

This interest spurred her to join the school’s drama club where she was given a role as a tree. Her role involved swaying her shoulders and although humble, it made her fall deeply in love with acting.

At the school, she got a chance to see other students who were very talented, such as, Jackie Matubia who was in the same school. This encouraged her to stick to the art.

Career

After high school, it became hard for her to chose between acting and her love for travel and tourism. She chose the latter but soon realized she wanted to act.

The actress took the first step by going for auditions and got a role in a church play.

In 2019, she auditioned for a role in Auntie Boss but was not picked. Luckily, she was called back for a different role and her journey on TV commenced. Apart from Auntie Boss, she featured on Crime and Justice and on two Showmax’s shows named Murder Camp and Amandla.

Her role as Becky is one of the biggest and toughest shows she has had to do. During the auditions, she had to give her all.

This intensified during the shooting which comprised of two months of shooting two seasons.

Playing Becky, she comes from a humble background and has been through a lot of challenges. She is quick tempered yet compassionate at the same time.

Away from acting, the actress who admires the likes of Brenda Wairimu and Sarah Hassan, is a farmer. She ventured into farming in 2022 and  also conducted research for documentaries.
