Stand up comedy in Kenya was synonymous with the ‘boychild’ until recently. Comedienne Eunice Wanjiru Njoki, popularly known as Mammito, is among the few female acts who are changing this script. Her entry into the competitive world that is comedy has been a breathe of fresh air. She has inspired the likes of Adhis among many others. Mammito doubles as an MC, actor and writer.
Eunice Wanjiru Njoki was born on 18th September 1993, in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya.
She attended Laini Saba Primary School and later Gatero Girls High School in Nyahururu up to form three and then Silanga Mixed Secondary in Kibera where she sat for her KCSE exams. She pursued Community Development Bachelor’s Degree at Mount Kenya University.
When she cleared University, Mammito started looking for a job as a social worker, but she failed to get one. She then decided to audition for the Churchill Show which she failed to impress a couple of times and would be sent away, only to be recalled because she lacked courage and stage presence despite her jokes being funny. This continued until she was finally admitted in 2015. Her career kept on unfolding and she started participating in various comedy fields such as:
The Kigali International Comedy Festival event in 2017 for three days
She took part in Anthony Bourdain television documentary as herself in 2018
