Maria Wavinya is a Kenyan model and beauty queen, crowned Miss World Kenya 2019.
She represented Kenya at the Miss World 2019 pageant, finishing in the top 12.
Wavinya has a background in journalism and mass communication from Mount Kenya University.
Recently, she gained media attention for allegedly getting married to businessman Khalif Kairo just four months after they met.
Who is Wavinya Maria?
Wavinya, originally from Nyandarua County, was raised by her single mother in Mombasa until the age of twelve, when her mother passed away.
This tragic event necessitated her relocation to live with her grandparents in the rural areas.
She attended Sasumwa Primary School in the Kinangop Constituency and later Mary Mother of God Primary School in Kilifi Constituency, before continuing her education at Manunga Secondary School in Kipipiri Constituency.
Wavinya completed her secondary education at St. Teresa High School.
Currently, she is pursuing a diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy, with aspirations of becoming an ambassador for her country in the future.
Pageantry
Wavinya was crowned Miss World Kenya in 2019.
Her journey began after a setback in the Nyandarua contest, where she initially did not succeed.
However, she persevered and later excelled in the Miss World Kenya pageant, finishing sixth overall and second in Africa at the global finals.
During her reign, Wavinya focused on social impact through her “Beauty with a Purpose” project, addressing issues like period poverty by partnering with organizations to distribute sanitary products to marginalized women.

Wavinya’s relationship with Kairo has garnered attention due to its rapid progression.
They met just four months before Kairo announced they were legally married, in an interview with content creator Mungai Eve.
During the interview, Kairo emphasized that Wavinya shares his values and aspirations, particularly regarding family life.
Kairo described Wavinya as simple and unmaterialistic, qualities that deeply attract him.
