Marion Gathoga-Mwangi was named as the new Standard Group PLC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Her appointment will take effect from July 15.
Taking over from interim CEO Joe Munene, the seasoned corporate executive is expected to right the ship at Kenya’s oldest media house.

Her expertise will be instrumental as we navigate the evolving media landscape,” Dr. Julius Kipngetich, Chairman of the Board at The Standard Group stated, expressing confidence in Gathoga-Mwangi’s appointment.
Mrs Mwangi is an accomplished Senior Executive with over 20 years of local and international experience in Commercial and General Management predominantly in the manufacturing sector.
She has held several senior positions at The Linde Group PLC, a leading global industrial gases and engineering solutions company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Marion Gathoga-Mwangi served the company separately as; Healthcare Director, Business Unit Director for Bulk and Onsite Manufacturing in South Africa, and Managing Director of BOC Kenya PLC.
She joined BOC from the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) where she held the position of Head of ACCA.
Mrs Mwangi also had a successful tour of duty with Groupe Lactalis — Parmalat Botswana (Pty) where she served as Country Head.
Other roles that Mrs. Mwangi has previously held include Country Director of Cadbury Kenya and East Africa Limited and General Manager at Unga Limited (Sea board Corporation). She has also had a long and distinguished career with Bayer East Africa.
She is a Non-Executive Director at BAT Kenya PLC, BOC Kenya PLC, and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
Marion Gathoga-Mwangi holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in International Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU) Kenya.
She is a recognized practitioner of Continuous Improvement (Kaizen), a methodology she has effectively utilized in corporate turnarounds.
Gathoga-Mwangi also serves as a part-time Academic Director of the Women in Leadership programme at Strathmore Business School (SBS), where she mentors the next generation of leaders.
She is a long-serving director of The Palmhouse Foundation, through which she advances her philanthropic endeavours.

Marion Gathoga-Mwangi was recognized as Top 40 over 40 for a period of 4 years by the Business Daily.
She won the Global Community Service Award at Kraft Foods for impacting her community, and is a sought-after Mentor, Executive Coach and Public Speaker. Marion is a Rotarian and Toastmaster.
She is a golfing member of Karen Country Club and a Founder member of the Capital Club.
