Maureen Koech is an award winning Kenyan actor and singer. From the time she was bit by the acting bug in high school, it became a part and parcel of her life.

Here is her story as told by WoK,

Maureen Koech Age

She was Born on 21st May 1989 in Nairobi as the second born in a family of three children.

Maureen Koech Education

The award winning actress attended Thika Christian School where she experienced a lot of bullying from the boys.

She thinks they picked on her because of the unevenness of her skin at the time. She later joined Nakuru High School and reinvented herself. Here, she became popular and joined the school’s drama club.

After high school, she knew she wanted to act but it wasn’t thought of as a career at the time. Thus, she took up a Bachelor of Business Information Technology in Strathmore (BBIT). She joined the Strathmore drama club and continued to act.

Career

After second year, the fees burden became too much for her mum forcing her to drop out. While it was hurtful to watch her friends go on while she remained behind, Koech thinks this was a good decision. She never had the passion for IT and was failing most subjects.

Koech first appeared as Shiks on Changing Times. This was followed with a role in the popular series, Lies that Bind.

Here, she acted as Patricia, a bubbly young woman trying to rediscover herself. Thanks to her exceptional performance on the show, she won Best Supporting Actress in the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award at a ceremony held in Lagos, Nigeria in 2013.

This was followed by an appearance in the film Sticking Ribbons in 2015. Maureen has also made appearances in the movie Kafura, and play An Ideal Husband.

Apart from acting, she is also a musician whose stage name is Mokko. she recorded her first song soon after high school and today she has a couple of songs on her YouTube channel.
