He is a natural whose brand of comedy has endeared him to many. Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as MC Jessy, is the consummate Kenyan comedian whose abilities have seen him earn a spot as Churchill Raw host, an off-shot of Churchill Live Show. The ease with which he engages the audience and his emceeing abilities have propelled the funny man-who traces his roots in Egoji village, Meru County-to one of the most sought after comedian in Kenya. So how did it all begin?
Education
His story reads like a copy paste but mild version of MCA Tricky rise to the apex of his career. The funnyman would have been a class 8 dropout had a sponsor not intervened to pay his schools at St Cyprian Boys in Meru county. He was to later pursue Communications at Daystar University courtesy of another sponsor.
Joining Churchill Show
Like most comedians, it took many attempts for MC Jessy to finally make it to the premier comedy show. He told SDE of his big break: “I tried auditioning many times, including Phoenix and Churchill Show season one, but never made it. I resolved to do comedy in our church which I did for five years. One day, I met Churchill in one of Carnivore’s toilets and engaged him. We bonded and he gave me a chance to perform in episode 36, season two.” He proved his worth with a stellar performance when he hosted the show in the absence of Churchill who was away. This, according to the comedian, is what led to the weekly Churchill Raw.
How much does he earn in Churchill Show
The funnyman, unlike other comedians, is paid a salary. He takes home about Kes300,000 per month for hosting the show and the other roles he plays in production.
Emceeing
MC Jessy is an emcee par excellence and he charges good money for his services. If you want the Churchill Raw host to emcee in your event you have to be prepared to part with not less than Kes200,000.
Controversies
Away from his wealth, the comedian hit the headlines when news leaked that he was in an extra marital affair with actress cun radio presenter Shix Kapienga real name Nancy Wanjiku. The two denied the rumors but it did not take long before their relationship went public.
