MC Jimmie Kajim Biography: From A Tout To Speaking Directly To The President

By Prudence Minayo

James Muiri, popularly known as MC Jimmie Kajim, is a Kenyan vernacular radio presenter and one of the most sought after MC in the country. His rise to the top was bumpy but he had a clear roadmap of what he wanted in life and he worked towards it.

Before the fame and fortune, Kajim worked as a tout and a salesperson as we shall see elsewhere in this bio.

Apart from being a radio presenter, he has an entertainment company known as Jimmie Entertainment, which offers PA sound Systems, DJ and MC services among others.

Here is his story as told by WoK.

Background

Kajim lost his mother when he was in class five. He was raised by his grandparents.

Age

The radio presenter turned 27 years old in 2021.

Education

Kajim attended Makwa High School. He was appointed the school headboy thanks to his leadership skills. Apart from that role, he was also the chairman of the Christian Union.

According to a former schoolmate, Kajim was very popular and knew each of them by name in a school that had a population of over 1,000 students. After his 0-levels, he joined Utalii College.

Career

After graduating from college, Kajim worked as an intern for a tourism company. He quickly realised he was not cut out for office work as he would get tired before noon. Six months into the job, he called it quits.

He got a job at Jubilee Insurance as a sales person but was unable to sell anything for six months. Kajim knew it was time to leave the job and he left.

With the two jobs being a disaster, the entertainer decided to be a tout on the Githurai 44-Kahawa West route. He believes it was while doing this job that he honed his skills in comedy.

One day, a friend told him about auditions for a stand up Kikuyu comedy. Most people loved being around him as they believed he was funny and always happy.

After the auditions, he was among the successful candidates and was employed to co-host the pioneer Kikuyu Stand Up comedy Centro Comedy Live. This marked his entry into the world of media.

He then joined Gukena FM where he worked as a co-host for Gukena FM’s drive show alongside Njoki wa Mburu.

Talking to the Star Word Is, he advised young people that every accomplishment starts with the choice to try.

“Regardless of who mistreated you, what lies you’ve been told, or how bad your past has been you have a future and God has good plans for you and above all never give up,” he said.

Weekly Calls With The President

The Gukena FM morning show presenter is one of the few Kenyans who directly spoke to former President Uhuru Kenyatta on a weekly basis. His strong personality was recognized by his boss Martin Khafafa during the launch of Radio Africa ‘beyond metaverse campaign’.

“The morning presenter on Gukena is called Kajim, I think he is the only one in this room I know who speaks directly to the President once every week,” the managing director said during his presentation.

“Uhunye calls Kajim on Gukena. He is a very significant and very strong personality,” added Mr Khafafa.

On his part, the presenter said it took him time to get where he is and he harbors dreams of one day being a State House MC.

“The President doesn’t call anyone and it took me time to get to where I am. I have attended some presidential events and even hosted some and I look forward to being the State House MC in future,” he revealed.

Kajim credits his success to passion and urging his followers not to give up.

“Keep doing what you know best, you never know who’s watching or listening to you. Love what you do and do it with a passion,” he told Word Is.

Marriage

MC Kajim is married to the beautiful Silvana Wambui. The two had their traditional wedding ceremony in March 2021 at Kamwengi Primary School, Gatundu North, Kiambu county.

Popular celebrities such as Henry Desagu, Auntie Jemimah, and Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria were among those who graced the occasion.

In May 2021, they got married in a colorful ceremony at Sportsview Hotel in Kasarani. The wedding was attended by family members and close friends from the media fraternity and politicians.

Silvana Wambua is a fitness enthusiast and works at Jim Collections. She also tattooed the name of her husband on her right shoulder.
