Musician Major Nameye Khadija, popularly known as Mejja has disclosed that his wealth is under her mother’s name.

The musician who is close with her mother made the revelation in an interview with Radio Maisha, sparking mixed reactions.

Mejja noted that he put his mother as the next of kin because he has no other person that he trusts more than his mother.

He explained that although he has a girlfriend, he cannot put her as the next of kin because they are still getting to know each other.

As such, he would rather have his wealth under his mother’s name as he knows it will be safe.

“For now I’ll have my mother as the next of kin until I get the right person to fill her shoes. You can’t just get someone and entrust them with your wealth

“It’s good to know someone first; time will tell the kin of person that you’re dealing with. It’s good to do your due diligence first before trusting anyone,” Mejja said.

In 2021, Mejja disclosed why he adopted his mother’s second name which he uses it as his surname.

According to the rapper who was raised in Nyeri’s Majengo slums, he’s paying homage to his mum for singlehandedly him and his two brothers after their father left.

“I call myself Khadija because my father was a sperm donor. As a child, I didn’t understand the sacrifices she made for us. Sometimes, I would find her crying in the house and she’d act like nothing was wrong

“When I grew up and had my family, I realized she went through a lot to raise three boys. After coming to Nairobi, people would always comment about the name saying it’s a woman’s so I started insisting mtoto wa Khadija. She’s my inspiration,” he said.

He explained that being raised by a single mother exposed him to the challenges children without a father figure face and influenced his decision to be a part of his children’s lives.

“I have faced so many challenges that in an ideal situation, my father’s advice would have come in handy- but I had to deal with a lot on my own. There are some things you can’t tell your mother as it would give her more stress

“People don’t realize that I have children- I promised myself to never be away from them. I didn’t want to raise my kids outside the family unit but circumstances forced me to. It doesn’t matter if we are not together with baby mama- the child did nothing wrong,” said Mejja.
