On Tuesday 26th July 2022, the country was for the first time introduced to the wife of Roots Party presidential candidate Professor George Luchiri Wajackoyah. This was after he was accompanied with her as they walked into the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA)) where the presidential debate was held.
In this article, WoK brings you the story of Meller Lee Cheatham – Wajackoya’s American wife who worked as a flight attendant.
Meller Lee Cheatham
Meller Lee Cheatham is an African-American who mainly lives in the United States. She got married to Professor George Wajackoyah in the early 90s but they finally walked down the aisle in February 2020.
“Today, I married my best friend and confidant. On January 4th 2020. The best is yet to come,” she posted on post.
A spotlight check on the internet, especially on her Facebook page where she is quite active, showed that she worked as an air attendant in 2014. She also appears to be a regular visitor to Kenya with numerous photos of herself visiting the Giraffe Center, shopping at Maasai market and enjoying ugali and fish in a local food joint. Her page also shows that she has been associated with the Roots Party in Kenya since 2013, posting a photo with the founder of the political party – Mr. Asjad Omar as he was preparing to vie for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) position in Pangani ward.

“It was a pleasure to meet The Roots Party Candidate Mr. Asjad Omar at his offices in Nairobi Kenya. Mr. Omar is running for County Rep for Pangani ward in Nairobi County and is a founding member of the Roots Party of Kenya,” she wrote in a public post in 2013.
During an exclusive interview with Jeff Koinange on the JKL show that aired on Citizen TV, Wajackoyah revealed that he has a wife and children.
“I have children and an American wife. She lives in the United States and our grown-up kids live in the United Kingdom,” he said.
They have two daughters, Marjorie Luchiri and Marz Luchiri and a first born son Ty Luchiri. They are also blessed with a grandson named ‘Ras’ Jayden who lives with his mother in Spain. On 29th June 2022, Wajackoyah announced that he was taking a break from campaigns to visit his grandson.
On 26th July 2022, Professor George Wajackoya made his first public appearance with his wife after the duo walked into the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) while holding hands. Meller was dressed in a black trouser, a black top and an African kitenge made half coat. The two would then storm out of the premises where the 2022 Presidential debate was set to happen after raising issues of unfair treatment. He demanded that all the four presidential aspirants be put together in one stage for the debate.
