Little was known about Merry Nkatha until recently when former governor Mike Sonko released viral videos of her. In the video, she has a conversation with Mike Sonko and informs him of a plot by the county government to sabotage him. After talking for a while, she asks if she could show Sonko her b**b, an offer he agrees to. Nkatha says she met Sonko in one of his lawyers’ home in Karen where he learnt that she was close to Kananu.

She claimed that during the meeting Sonko allegedly offered her Ksh250 million or an alternative Ksh300 million beach plot to implicate Kananu in irregularities surrounding the court’s clearance for her swearing in. It is after declining the money that Sonko devised a plan to make the tapes.

Career

In the audio tapes released by Sonko on his social media, Nkatha is reportedly heard identifying herself as a National Intelligence Service Officer, however, she has denied working for the spy agency.

She said she was a banker turned strategist.

Alleged Kidnapping

Recently, she claims to have recorded a statement at Karen Police Station saying her life was in danger. She said Sonko and his people have been threatening. Apparently, the former Nairobi governor wants her as a witness in a case against Justice Chitembwe and governor Anne Kananu.

Nkatha also claims to have been kidnapped on Saturday in Karen. The men who kidnapped her forced her to answer questions under duress while she was being recorded.

“They put a gun on me and ordered me to read what was written on a paper to respond to Sonko’s questions,” she said.

Lang’ata police boss said they were investigating the kidnapping claims and the complainant has received protection.

Sonko and Merry Nkatha Affair

Sonko on the other hand has distanced himself from these claims and released a video to show that he had been in communication with Nkatha for a while and that she has been feeding him with information. He also added that if threats were being made against her life then the police should indeed investigate.

The ex-governor released a video-call of Nkatha being all lovey dovey. She went as far as showing her ‘nyonyos’ to Sonko who urged her along.

The former Nairobi boss had released a couple of recordings implicating judges in graft allegations. Leading the Judicial Service Commision, Chief Justice Martha Koome said they were investigating the matter.
