Michael Mwangi: Profile Of Kate Actress Lover Who Spent His Childhood In The US

Social media was ablaze when Kate Actress and celebrated filmmaker Philip Karanja announced that they were no longer together. 

The two revealed on their respective instastories that they had ended their union ‘a long  while ago’. A statement from Kate Actress read,

“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honour our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” Kate shared.

Michael Mwangi-The New Man 

Kate Actress, real name Catherine Kamau, has since moved on. The new man in her life is Mike Mwangi, the General Manager of Tribe Hotel. 

The Tribe Hotel GM credits his grandfather for his entry into the hospitality industry. 

Parents living in the US

He was raised by his grandfather until the age of ten. At the time, his parents were living in the US. In an interview on Business Daily, he said his grandfather was an amazing cook. He would accompany him to his lodge where he  helped make beds and peel potatoes.

“He was the gentleman that raised me when my parents were away in the US. He was an amazing cook. On weekends, I’d accompany him to his lodge where I’d help make beds and peel potatoes. Then at 10 years, I went to the US,” he told the publication. 

Education

After high school, he joined Johnson & Wales University for Associate of Arts and Science (AAS), Culinary Arts/Chef training between 2002-2004. 

According to his Linkedin account, he also graduated from the same institution with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc), Hotel, Motel and restaurant management.

Michael Mwangi Career

He has had an illustrious career spanning over 28 years in the US and now Kenya. The hotelier worked at Sheraton Boston as an outlet manager before moving to Hyatt Centric Arlington as director food & beverage. 

Other hotels he has worked include Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, Davidson Hotels & Resorts, Brandywine Living before he joined Tribe Hotel Nairobi as the hotel general manager.
