Michelle Morgan: Ex-Citizen TV News Anchor Running Family Owned BM Security & Alchemist Bar

The story of Michelle Morgan is one that celebrates the virtues of hardwork, resilience and consistency. From working as a news anchor in Kenya’s leading media stations to running a successful security company and owning a high end club in Westlands, this woman has simply done it all.

Michelle Morgan Background

Michelle Morgan is the daughter of the late Bob Morgan who was a senior assistant commissioner in the late President Moi government. Michelle attended Hillcrest Secondary School where sat for her A levels in French, Business and Drama from 2003 to 2007. The ex-K24 news anchor went on to join the prestigious Middlesex University in London, United Kingdom-graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication.

Career Journey

Michelle kickstarted her career in August 2012 at Royal Media Services owned Citizen TV as a prime time news anchor reading the 1pm news bulletin and the 9pm business news. She was there for one year and seven months before she joined Ebru TV in May 2014.

She worked at the station for six months before calling it quits. Two months later she had landed another job at Mediamax Network limited owned K24 in July 2014. She worked for at the station for three years before calling it a day to pursue other interests outside the media industry.

Joining Bob Morgan Services Limited

In 2018, Michelle joined Bob Morgan Services Limited-popularly known as BM Security as the executive director. The company was founded in 1984 by her late father, Bob Morgan with the aim of providing quality security services to corporate entities.

Having been in existence for over 30 years, BM Security has built a reputation of professionalism in providing a wide range of security solutions to the corporate, banking and Diplomatic sectors. The company has 11 branches in different parts of the country including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Nyeri.

The company is ISO certified and is a member of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). With her vast experience in the Public Relations and Media industries, Michelle plays a key role in ensuring that the company thrives and her father’s legacy remains intact.

She recently started the BM Foundation – an initiative that seeks to give back to the community and also partners with other organizations such as Friends of Karura Forest in planting trees and conserving the environment.

Establishing Alchemist Bar and Restaurant

Apart from being at the helm of BM Security, Michelle together with her Asian husband Peng Chen, established the now popular Alchemist Bar and Restaurant in Westlands on 31st December 2015. The open club and restaurant provides a space where one can hold live events and host acoustic bands.

The restaurant has different facilities including an open air cinema, a lounge, a chill out spot, an outdoor dining space, food trucks, a designer shopping space and a nightclub. The popular Mama Rocks Gourmet Burgers food truck is situated at the premises.

During a past interview with one of the local dailies, Peng Chen revealed that they stumbled across the piece of land back in 2015.

“We luckily stumbled upon this space through Nishad. I still remember when we first saw it; it was a jungle here. It was rough but it was beautiful because all the elements were here. The space that we wanted, the acoustics which we thought would be nice for live music, and then…The trees! Just a bit of an oasis in the heart of the city,” he explained.

Michelle Morgan and Peng Chen would later officially exchange vows on 14th May 2019 in a private beach wedding held in the islands of Seychelles. The two have one son together named Pack Chen who is currently three years old.
