Mathare houses have been submerged after heavy rains, and the Nairobi floods have affected many families in the city.

The Kenya Red Cross has rescued 18 people, including 11 adults and 7 children in Mradi, Mathare 4A, after becoming stranded due to floodwaters caused by heavy rains in Nairobi.

Heavy rains have pounded most parts of Kenya and in Nairobi, slum areas have felt devastating outcomes with many homes submerged.

Mathare residents have been forced to sleep on rooftops as they awaited rescue.

According to Citizen TV, at least six residents of Mathare North have been reported missing as houses have been submerged.

“I reached out to the Kenya police in Ruaraka, they contacted me in the morning after we got exhausted from calling,”

“All those rescue teams that we are advised to call in case of such an incident ignored our calls. People have started getting out of rooftops because the floods are subsiding. Some people are trapped in their houses,” a resident is quoted by Citizen.

In a statement by the Kenya Red Cross seen by WoK, at least 23 counties have been affected by floods due to heavy rains.

Nairobi, Central region and the coast have been hit hard.

Western Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern lowlands and North-eastern regions have also experienced flooding.
