Nyota Ndogo captured the hearts of fans around the world with her captivating music and electrifying live performances.

She rose to fame thanks to her distinctive sound and unique style, which made her a household name in the music industry.

After years of success in the music industry, Nyota Ndogo decided to step away from the spotlight and pursue a new passion, entrepreneurship.

The musician famed for her hit song, Watu Na Viatu, relocated to Voi, Taita Taveta County where she started her own business, Nyota Ndogo Jikoni.

Here is her story as told by WoK.

Nyota Ndogo established her business in Voi.

The singer explained that she fell in love with the small town years back when she was still active in music.

“I’ve lived Voi from way back when I had shows here, the love that I got from the people of Voi is still there until today,” she said.

In an interview with Citizen TV, Nyota Ndogo added that the people of Voi have been supportive of her business since it’s establishment.

“They have been coming here in masses and they love it the most when they find me serving the clients,” she said.

Nyota Ndogo also addressed her absence in the active music scene, attributing it to the evolvement of music in Kenya.

“The music industry has changed and we now have new sounds such as Gengetone that people enjoy listening to

“For someone like me, if I compose a new song and release it, the young people have no idea of my type of music,” she said.

The musician noted that her journey to establishing an eatery started on TikTok and Instagram where she would go live while cooking.

She says that despite harsh criticism from a section of social media users, others encouraged her to consider starting a hotel.

“Every time I’d  go live on these platforms, some of my fans wouldreally encouraged me to consider starting a hotel,” she said.

Nyota Ndogo has a variety of coastal foods on her hotel’s menu which include pilau, biryani, chicken tikka and maharagwe ya nazi.

She stated that she had thought about exploiting other options away from music such as entrepreneurship.

“I knew that I would not be on top forever, I knew that there was a whole generation that would come after me and take over

“As such, I wouldn’t want to complain later that I was not getting support because I had my time,” Nyota Ndogo explained.

She advised musicians to consider other sources of income rather than depending on music alone.
