JOIN WOK ON TELEGRAM

Olive Kalekye Burrows was one of the most notable news anchor on NTV before she called it quits to join Citizen TV. The journalist has interviewed high profile personalities with the most notable being former president of the United States Barack Obama during his visit to Kenya in 2015.

She has also interviewed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner, Melinda Gates, John Kerry during the time when he was the United States Secretary of State and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Elizabeth Frazer.

The lass obviously has a lot experience when it comes to conducting interviews and she just knows the right questions to ask.

Education

Olive is an alumni of Daystar University.

Family

Olive is an only child born to a Kamba mother while her father was the son to a British father and a Tanzanian mother. The news presenter has half sisters and brothers.

Career

In 2007, she was an intern at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). She then contributed to a number of big publications such as, East African Magazine (EAM), True Love and Destination Magazine.

On October 2007, she joined Nation Media Group where she worked as a contributor until April 2009.

In 2012, she joined Capital FM where she became a reporter and was exceptionally good at the job which she did diligently for the next 6 years.

In 2018, she joined NTV as a news anchor and was paired with renown investigative journalist Dennis Okari. The two have one of the most amazing on screen chemistry that led many people to suggest they should marry, especially when photos of her helping Dennis apply make up surfaced online. Speaking to Nation, she was asked about the picture and responded:

“That picture was not taken with our knowledge. I’m a woman. Deno is a guy. And, not that I have much experience with make up, he was sort of doing the wrong thing with the brush and I wanted to help him. I can say we have grown comfortable with one another and that is a thing I would do for a friend. Our chemistry is genuine.”

It is usually a wonderful thing when co-anchors get along and build a wonderful chemistry as it helps them present the news effortless and keeps the viewers locked on the screens.

Besides, this was when people still did not know of Okari’s marriage and were just playing match makers. Plus, she adds that Dennis provide great assistance to her when she started on the early days on NTV.

“ We had never met before, I don’t know, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know if he was someone who is friendly or a snob. Deno was himself and he allowed me to be myself. He was honest with me. He kept telling me to slow down because I speak very fast. He helped guide me and improve my skills,” she added.

Joining Citizen TV

The TV siren joined Citizen TV after the exit of Victoria Rubadiri who quit to join CNN. As reported by WoK, she will be taking over as the weekend anchor.

Personal Life

Not much is known about her personal life or relationship status as she keeps it under wraps.

She also loves reading with her favorite authors including Chimamanda Adichie, Malcom Gladwell and Khaled Hosseini. She went on to describe Adichie’s writing as the descriptive form she like to emulate. The NTV journalist also said in the interview that she loves eating with her favorite being chips and chicken.
