In the early morning hours of 15th October, 2025, speculations were rife that Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had passed away. A majority of Kenyans turned on their data connection and thronged to social media sites to confirm whether the news was indeed true.

With majority of top digital sites in Kenya remaining mum, Indian digital sites went ahead and published about the demise of Raila Odinga. It was until around 9 a.m that Kenyan media houses confirmed that Raila had indeed died.

Indian news outlet Samakalika Malayalam reported on the matter at 8:40 a.m confirming that Raila, who was in the country for medical attention had died during a morning walk.

“Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has passed away… He suffered a heart attack during his morning commute. Odinga had been undergoing treatment at Sreedhareeyam Hospital.”

“Raila Odinga, who has a long-standing association with Sreedhariya, had arrived in Koothattukulam for treatment six days ago. Odinga, who fell ill, was immediately taken to Devamata Hospital in Koothattukulam. However, his life could not be saved,” reported Samakalika Malayalam.

Another Indian website, Mathrubhumi, posted about Raila’s death at 11:01 Indian Time (8:30 a.m EAT) confirming that Raila was receiving treatment at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Center. It is this facility that successfully treated Rosemary Odinga when she lost her eyesight.
