Sankara Hotel: Inside The Luxurious Westlands Hotel Owned by Billionaire Businessman Baloobhai Patel and Late AG Charles Njonjo

The Sankara Hotel is among the most luxurious and well-reviewed hotels in the country and region.

According to a publication by Business Daily (2014) and the Standard (2016), late former Attorney-General Charles Njonjo was listed as the majority shareholder of the hotel alongside billionaire businessman Baloobhai Patel.

Award-winning review website Expert Africa indicates that a majority of travellers and patrons at the hotel give it a 90 per cent excellence rating.

“The rooms are the most comfortable, well designed and well lit that we’ve come across in central Nairobi, discreetly decorated with African artworks, with sumptuous beds and high-thread-count sheets.

“It also has very good bathrooms with walk-in showers and bathtubs, flat-screen satellite TVs with all the channels you need, and well-planned work desks with a choice of free wired internet or reasonably fast free WiFi,” Expert Africa stated.

Accommodation

The Sankara Hotel boasts luxurious accommodation facilities, segregated into Executive, Presidential, Superior, and Junior suites.

Sankara Executive Room- These rooms are a mix of a unique intimate chic design and a dose of elegance with walnut wooden walls, marble bathrooms flooded with natural light. The guest rooms feature a king bed, wardrobe, luggage rack, working desk and flat screen smart TVs with a view overlooking the serene Westlands area.

A night at the Sankara executive room costs $220.

Presidential Suites – The one of a kind room boasts; bespoke serta mattresses and luxurious Hanse down toppers, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, large work desk and ergonomic chair, all news cable network, and international TV and movie channels.

The room also has an atmospheric temperature control panel, down duvets, pillow menu (upon request), nightly turndown service, complimentary daily shoe polish, and an iron and ironing board.

A night in the presidential suite costs $1000.

Junior Suites – prominently situated at corner sections of the hotel floor, the seven rooms benefit from large panoramic windows offering extensive views over the city. Contemporary in design, these suites are decorated to the highest standards in natural tones with rich silks, wood, leather and modern African fabrics.

A night at the junior suites costs $228.

Executive Suite – Guests booking the Executive rooms have exclusive access to the luxury seventh floor Sankara Lounge, including complimentary gourmet breakfast, dedicated areas for work and relaxation, two state-of-the-art boardrooms, express check-in and checkout and complimentary food and beverages.

Superior Room – They are spacious and bright with floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows and fully equipped with all of the latest facilities and amenities. Contemporary in design, a key feature of the rooms is the glass partition between the bedroom and bathroom.

A night here costs $150.

Sankara is renowned for offering one of the best dining experiences in Nairobi and perhaps, the region.

The Graze Steakhouse located within the hotel is a modern take on the New York-style steakhouse, offering aged beef, succulent seafood and indulgent desserts paired to perfection with eclectic wines and whiskies from some of the finest producers in the world.
