Who Owns Kenya recently spoke to Sina as she received an award at the recently held Africa outstanding Awards in Nairobi.

Kindly introduce yourself and tell us what you do

My name is Sina Tsegazeab. I am originally from Eritrea but I currently reside in Uganda. I own a business called Natna Hair, which was established in mid-2015.

What inspired you to start a hair business?

When I first moved to Uganda over a decade ago, I had a difficulty finding really good hair, so I thought there must have been plenty other people who had a similar challenge. That is where the idea to sell premium hair came from, and the rest is history.

What kind of hair do you sell?

At Natna Hair we sell different types of weaves, wigs, extensions, lashes and other hair products. When I say hair products I mean hair shampoo, hair glue, hair sprays, etc. This means that when a client walks into our shops they are able to find everything they need to take care of their hair.

For someone who doesn’t know anything about hair, how can they distinguish between good quality hair and hair that is of bad quality?

With premium hair the only way to distinguish it is by looking at the texture. Quality hair is very smooth, soft and resembles real hair when put on.

What are some tips you would give someone who is interested in this kind of business?

Like any other business, it is not easy to run a franchise. So for anyone looking to get into this business, be ready to not be accepted by many. However, that should not discourage you. Work on a niche, identify your clientele and their needs and remain consistent with the quality of your product.

Where do you source your hair?

To begin with, people source hair from different parts of the world, depending on the type of hair they want. For example, curly hair might come from a different part of the world compared to straight hair. For us, our manufacturer is based in Italy and that’s where we get all our hair from.

You are currently in Nairobi to receive an award. Tell us a bit about that

I am very excited to have been nominated for our an award at the Africa Outstanding Awards. It is a big deal to be recognized in our continent for my efforts. Award ceremonies like these give us motivation to continue working towards making the industry better.

I am very proud of my team and myself as well for coming this far and I do not take it lightly. Thank you very much.

Kindly speak to the Kenyan consumer who’s looking forward to getting their hands on your products
