Residents of Karen are up in arms over media personality, Betty Kyallo’s restaurant, The Summer House, over loud music.
In a letter addressed to Nairobi City County, the Karen Lang’ata District Association said the restaurant causes noise pollution by playing loud music at night.
As a result, this has caused inconvenience and discomfort to those living near the establishment.
The residents have urged the county government to move with speed and shut down the restaurant and revoke all the licenses and approvals.
“We are aggrieved that The Summer House, which opened its doors to the public two months ago, did not follow the prerequisite process when seeking to develop the property as is required by the law,” Association Chairperson Silalteh Samora said.
Samora further noted that there was no public participation before the restaurant was set up, adding that there is no change of user of the property from residential to commercial.
“No public announcement in any daily newspaper was made notifying members of the public about The Summer House development,” he added.
The restaurant was launched on November 18, three months after it was opened, in an event graced by among others former Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and footballers McDonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama.
Members of the first family, Charlene and Cherono and President William Ruto’s son-in-law, Dr. Alexander Ezenagu were present.
It took the ex-media personality and her partner two years to tastefully model this new hangout.
Located right opposite Bomas of Kenya, revelers can enjoy their favorite drink as they watch EPL matches or the sport they fancy.
“This is my space, this is where I will be spending much of my time in the coming years therefore I want it to look like me and feel like home,” Betty shared.
It has well manicured grounds for holding events and a big cinematic outdoor screen is perfect for watching football or the Grand Prix.
At the same time, the restaurant will be the proud location host for a new all men program that will air on NTV from 26 November.
The program ‘Man Cave’ brings together A-list Kenyan men celebrities who share their experiences, network and just have an easy conversation on what affects the male gender in the society.
