Civil servants will face pay cuts of upto half  their salaries if the coronavirus pandemic is not contained, reports the Saturday Nation. According to the daily, the amount slashed from the workers will be directed to fight the pandemic that is threatening to bring world economies to their knees.

Although the Public Service Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia alleyed such fears, an official sitting in the National Emergency Response Committee confirmed the salaries will be slashed but as a last resort.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) secretary-general Akelo Misori termed the move as unfair saying teachers  are “already facing bad economic times”.
