Team University offers competitive courses in line with international standards. In October 2010, they became the first private degree awarding institution licensed by National Council for Higher Education. Today, they offer Undergraduate degree, Masters degrees, PHDs, Postgraduate diplomas and vocational courses and training for professional qualifications. The University offers the degree program with five faculties which are: Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
Founders
Team University was founded by three Ugandan nationals namely Joseph Kigongo, Balikuddembe, David Tushabomwe, and Sam Kindyomunda who are accountants by profession. At first, it was a business college aimed at training their learners to be accountants. The learners graduated with a certificate by the Association of Chattered Certified Accountants (ACCA).They began by renting a space from BAT Valley Primary School before moving to CAROL House.
Becoming a University
In 2006, the three-man team applied to the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), to change the status of Team Business College into a private university. In December, the following year, they were given a letter of interim to establish Team University. In October 2010, the University was launched as a private institution that awards degrees. Five years later, they received their full accreditation as a private university.
They held their fifth graduation on October 2017 with about 400 students being conferred with their degrees and certificate
TEAM and Sakaja
Team University gained notoriety thanks to Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja. The politician has often insinuated that he graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) with a degree in Actuarial Science. While appearing on Churchill show in June 2021, he stated that he bought a Mercedes Benz during his final year at the UoN in 2007.
However, this was questioned after the University said while he indeed joined the school to pursue Actuarial Science, he is yet to graduate. On the other hand, Sakaja says he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management from Team University in Uganda.
According to the communications director at UoN, he was enrolled at the University on a module two program in 2003 but did not graduate. A petitioner had filed a complaint with the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee. Mr. Dennis Gakuu was seeking to have the senator prevented from vying for Nairobi’s gubernatorial race over failing to have a degree.
“Forget propaganda; sell your candidate. Our march is unstoppable, our faith unshakeable and our victory is inevitable,” he posted on Twitter following these revelations.
