While a section of celebrities in Kenya make merry while the sun shines and forget to invest, some are wise enough to establish businesses that cushion them when the fame and money is gone. This article looks at the celebrities who have invested their money in restaurants as a side hustle.

Jalango – Wapek Delicacies

Felix Odiwuor alias Jalango is a Kenyan comedian turned politician who is set to vie for Langata constituency parliamentary seat in the August 9th general elections. On Wednesday April 19th 2022, the comedian and his lovely wife Amina Chao launched a brand new restaurant known as Wapek Delicacies Restaurant. The restaurant is situated on the 1st floor of Queensway house, opposite International House building and can be accessed via Kaunda Street and Mama Ngina Street. The restaurant mainly focuses on preparation of traditional meals and African cuisines that are prepared by the highly qualified chefs. The restaurant also has a bar lounge in the VIP section where clients can sit in the comfy sofas and enjoy a bottle of their favorite drinks.

Holy Dave Muthengi – HDs Kitchen

Holy Dave Muthengi is a celebrated gospel musician, TV Host, MC and social media influencer with over 377,000 followers on instagram and 35,000 on twitter. He first came to the limelight when he was one of the hosts of Bambika – a top gospel music show that airs every Sunday from 11.00am to 1.00pm on Citizen Television. The musician started HDs Kitchen – a show where he cooks for fun and post it on his social media. Kenyans loved his recipes and demanded more, prompting him to start the restaurant in January 2021. He provides outside catering as well as private parties hospitality. In 2020, he told a leading news blog that he was in the process of opening a restaurant. 

“HD’s Kitchen will be launched in January. We will employ the youth and give them a source of income and make a bigger impact in Kenya,” Holy Dave said.

Crazy Kennar – Instant Delicacies

Crazy Kennar is a famous comedian and content creator who is known for his highly hilarious short clips on YouTube and social media platforms. He has established a name for himself with over 754,000 followers on instagram and over 510,000 subscribers on YouTube. The comedian is the owner of Instant Delicacies – a fast food restaurant located along the Thika Superhighway at Juja Square, ground floor. The restaurant mainly targets young people drawn from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and mainly prepares fast foods such as fries and grilled chicken.

Alex Mwakideu – Pampered Village

Alex Mwakideu is a veteran Swahili radio presenter who has been in the field for over 15 years. He currently hosts a Breakfast show at Milele FM – A station owned by Mediamax limited which is associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Radio presenter is the owner of Pampered Village – a restaurant located in Kitengela along Acacia road, behind Hola Petrol station. The restaurant mainly specializes in preparation of authentic Swahili cuisines such as Biryani, pilau and Viazi karai. The restaurant has become a unique spot for many who want to have a taste of the coastal dishes around Nairobi metropolitan region.
