These esteemed leaders helm prestigious universities, driving academic excellence and contributing to the nation’s intellectual growth.

However, the disclosure of their high earnings and hidden allowances has sparked debates about transparency and fairness in the higher education sector.

Here are the highest paid Vice-Chancellors in Kenya and their allowances.

Samuel Gudu

At the top of the list is Prof. Samuel Gudu, the Vice-Chancellor of Rongo University.

With a distinguished reputation as a world-renowned scientist and full Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Prof. Gudu earns a gross salary of Ksh 1,610,111 per month.

Surprisingly, his hidden allowances amount to a staggering Ksh 560,000, resulting in a total earning of Ksh 2,220,111 monthly.

Prof. Dickson Nyariki

Second on the list is Prof. Dickson Nyariki, leading Murang’a University of Technology.

He receives a gross salary of Ksh 1,497,003, while his hidden allowances sum up to Ksh 215,000, bringing his total monthly earnings to Ksh 1,712,003.

Prof. Mary Ndungu

Similarly, Prof. Mary Ndungu of Kirinyaga University ranks third, earning a gross salary of Ksh 1,540,966 and receiving Ksh 626,000 in hidden allowances, resulting in a total of Ksh 2,076,966 per month.

Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho

Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho, who leads Maasai Mara University, earns a gross salary of Ksh 1,425,466.

Additionally, she enjoys hidden allowances amounting to Ksh 500,000, elevating her total monthly earnings to Ksh 1,925,000.

Following closely is Prof. Festus Kaberia of Multi Media University, earning Ksh 1,480,075 as gross salary, with hidden allowances adding Ksh 372,000, resulting in a total earning of Ksh 1,852,075.

Prof. Julius Omondi Nyabundi

Prof. Julius Omondi Nyabundi from Maseno University receives Ksh 1,322,003 as gross salary and an additional Ksh 220,000 in hidden allowances, making his total monthly earnings Ksh 1,542,003.

Prof. Lucy W. Irungu, the Vice-Chancellor of Machakos University, receives Ksh 1,159,184 as gross salary and Ksh 710,000 in hidden allowances, resulting in a total of Ksh 1,869,184.
