Uhuru Ballooned Like Kenya’s Debt – Boniface Mwangi

Kenyan human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta accusing him of plunging the country into unnecessary foreign debt.

In a tweet on Thursday, April 22, Boniface Mwangi compared President Kenyatta to former US President Barack Obama noting that the latter helped save his country from economic recession.

In 2013 when President Kenyatta took over, Kenya had a debt of 1.7 trillion shillings. Nine years later, Kenya has a debt of over 7 trillion shillings.

Taking a sublime shot at Uhuru, Boniface Mwangi noted that President Kenyatta’s physical appearance had changed in the same proportion as Kenya’s debt.

“Obama became president in the middle of an economic recession in the US. He revived the economy, created jobs and gave Americans affordable healthcare. Obama aged and his hair grayed. President Uhuru just borrowed recklessly and his body ballooned just like our national debt,” he tweeted.

The government has in the past few weeks come under sharp criticism from Kenyans over excessive borrowing, especially after it emerged that IMF granted Kenya another multi-billion loan.

With one year to his retirement, Uhuru is the leading Kenyan president in terms of foreign borrowing so far.

He, has, however, defended his borrowing track record, noting that the money is used for development projects which will, in turn, repay the accrued debts and bring massive revenue to the country.
