Veteran radio presenter and show host ‘Uncle’ Fred Obachi Machoka is the owner of an exclusive ranch at Isinya along the Kitengela-Namanga road, Kajiado County.
The resort is named after the “the blackest man in Africa”, Fred’s Ranch and resort. The holiday getaway is cowboy-themed and specialises in barbecue cuisines.
Other activities at the resort include; horse riding, quad biking, picnicking, farm tours and a vibrant children’s playground.
At first, Victor had a tough time selling the idea of a resort to his family, however, with support from Uncle Obachi they embarked on the venture.
In May 2015, for a test drive, they organised and hosted an event dubbed Labour Day Barbecue.
The event attracted hundreds of revelers, who turned up to have fun and enjoy themselves despite the heavy rains that day.
“The morning of the event, it rained, heavily. We were so frightened that no one would show up. But we got close to 100 guests who ended up happily playing football and volleyball in the rain,” Victor was quoted as saying by the publication.
“People stayed on even after darkness fell and we used our car headlights to light the place because we weren’t connected to electricity. It was one of those moments when you just know you’re onto something special,” he added.
According to The Standard, Victor used his savings to start the resort, and after a good run for the remainder of 2015, Uncle Obachi injected Ksh4 million into the project, and it was officially launched in 2016.
“By the end of December 2015, we had hosted a few more events including a Christmas Day Family Fun Day. My dad was convinced enough to secure a loan from a Sacco and invested Ksh4 million into the business. We officially launched Fred’s Ranch In February 2016,” Victor revealed.
Today the ranch boasts a wide range of services and events.
The serene surroundings of the Kisaju escapement and plains on which Fred’s ranch lies offers the ideal environment for family getaways, birthday party events, weddings, social retreats, sporting, and physical engagements, and accommodation.
The legendary show host rears dairy cattle at the ranch, which adds to the excitement as some people find joy in a case study of the ranch.
Fred’s ranch hosted Raila Odinga and members of the ODM party on September 10, 2017.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has also been a guest to the ranch among other Kenyan celebrities including, Willy M Tuva, Willis Raburu, and Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki.
