Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu is many things wrapped up in one. She’s an accomplished entrepreneur, an ex- beauty queen, an actress and she runs her own TV host. Then she can be a bad girl as you will see in a dedicated paragraph on her alleged drug use in this article.
Wema Sepetu Biography
Her career path was defined at an early age when her love for drama found a fertile ground in school. She went to the best schools that had no qualms nurturing talents as the pupils pursued academic excellence. Her father, Ambassador Isaack Abraham Sepetu, by virtual of being a diplomat opened the doors for Wema Sepetu to join an international school-Academy International School in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. You will notice she can communicate in English without much of a struggle ala most Bongo celebrities. Note/communicating in English is not a measure of intelligence.
University
The last born in a family of four had a rather brief fling at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia where she had enrolled to pursue an international business course. One year to the course, Wema Sepetu dropped out to pursue her first love: acting.
Winning Miss Tanzania
Her easy charm, beauty and intelligence was enough to see her crowned the Miss Tanzania in 2006. She went on to represent her country in Miss World 2006 but failed to enter the top 17 semifinalist. The exposure, however, made her name a brand beyond the shores of her country.
Acting Career
Catapulted by her exploits at the Miss World, the ground had been prepared for her acting career. The late Steven Kanumba was not only her lover but mentor who made her entry into the tumultuous world of film near seamless. On her debut, Wema played Dina alongside the protagonist Lameck (Steven Kanumba) on the highly rated film ‘A Point Of No Return’. This opened doors to feature in over 20 films that include Family Tears, Red Valentine, White Maria and on and on.
Producer
Not to be tied to acting alone, Wema threw her hat in production. In 2011, she produced Superstar-a movie that chronicled her on and off love story with Diamond Platnumz. The movie was launched the following year at the Kilimanjaro Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar Es Salaam in the presence of Nigerian Omotola Jalade Ekeinde who was the guest of honor. The movie never premiered as she could not get a producer willing to pay her what would have covered her production costs.
Wema bounced back in 2014 with another production ‘Day After Death’ featuring herself and Van Vicker. Her co-producer was Vicker. From 2015-2016, the actress played different roles in Family, Mapenzi Yamerogwa and Chungu Cha Tatu among other movies. In 2017 she produced Heaven Sent, which went on to receive seven nominations at the 2018 Sinema Zetu International Film Festival Awards including best Actress and Best Feature Film. Wema won the Best Actress and the movie won the People’s Choice.
Wema Sepetu Banned From Acting
Her acting career is on a temporary halt after her sex tape was leaked online. The video got the attention of the Tanzanian Film regulatory body BASATA who proceeded to ban Wema from acting any film until she corrects her behavior.
The statement issued by the film board representative Joyce Fiso reads in part:
“The film board, as mandated by law, has decided to take the following action against Wema Sepetu: to lock her out of the acting and arts industry for an unknown period of time until the day the film board will be satisfied that she has corrected her behavior. The film board will closely monitor her….”
Drug Possession
Another blight on her illustrious career is when she was found guilty of being in possession of illegal drugs by the Kisutu Resident Magistrates court in Dar es Salaam. She was slapped with a fine of kes88,000 (Tsh2 million) or a one year jail term.
Dating
She has a knack of attracting celebrities. Her relationship with one of the best musician in Africa Diamond Platnumz created the buzz associated with celebrity couples. The couple went separate ways. But it was her relationship with the ninth winner of the Big Brother reality show Idris Sultan that dominated banter on social media platforms.
After dating for barely a year, cracks started emerging in the relationship when Wema had a miscarriage of their twins. Though he did not clarify, Idris claimed Sepetu had made it her business to break his heart and that’s why he dumped her. The comedian told a local publication that it took him almost six months to get over Wema.
The actress has also had a fling with singer Ommy Dimpoz.

Property She Owns
The actress has a Toyota Harrier and a house bought to her by an older man she was dating but dumped for Diamond. Clement Kiondo, the man who financed her expensive lifestyle, was bitter with the betrayal and took away the expensive toys he had gifted her.
Wema said of her ex-financier:
“CK took the Range Rover, the Audi Q7, and a Mercedes-Benz and the house that I lived in. He then went to my office and took all the equipment and furniture that was there. He left me a Harrier and another house that was all paid for, all of which were in my name and he had no access to, he wanted me to pay for hurting him.”
