1. Radhika Lee – Nairobi International School
Radhika Lee is the founder and director of Nairobi International School, established in 2008 in Lavington, Kenya.
After overcoming personal challenges, including an abusive marriage, she leveraged her extensive teaching experience to create a school offering British education.
Initially starting with 35 students, the school now serves over 600 from diverse backgrounds and employs 150 staff members.
Lee’s innovative approach included introducing e-learning, earning recognition from Apple Inc.
She is a dedicated educator and philanthropist who also runs the Cancer Awareness and Treatment Support Initiative (CATSI). Her focus has always been making a difference in the lives of learners, as well as cancer patients.
2. Mary Okello – Makini Schools
Mary Okello is a prominent Kenyan entrepreneur and educator, best known as the founder of Makini Schools, established in 1978 with her late husband, Dr. Pius Okello.
Initially starting with eight students, the institution has grown into a respected educational network with over 3,200 students across four campuses.
Okello was also the first female bank manager in Kenya and founded the Kenya Women Finance Trust, advocating for women’s empowerment in finance.
In 2018, she sold a significant stake in Makini Schools to Advtech Group, marking a new chapter for the institution.
3. Eddah Gachukia – Riara Group of Schools
Eddah Gachukia, born on July 13, 1936, is a prominent Kenyan educationist and entrepreneur, co-founding the Riara Group of Schools, which includes Riara University.
She began her career as a teacher after earning a diploma from Makerere University and later obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Nairobi.
Gachukia has held various leadership roles, including the Founding Executive Director of the Forum for African Women Educationalists.
