The entertainment industry in Kenya is bustling with talent thanks to actors like Robert Agengo. Most young people are lost on the career path to take, Agengo figured he wanted to be an actor from the onset. He pursued acting right from primary school to high school. 

While he has played a number of roles in various films, he started at the very bottom just like many successful actors. He played various roles on set books, was cast as an extra in a number of films before landing big roles in other films. If there’s one thing you can learn from him is that hard work and determination really pays off. 

Age

He was born on 22nd April 1986.

Background and Education

The talented actor was born in Kibera. 

From 1993 to 2000, he attended Ayany Primary School.

From 2001 to 2004, he attended Ngelani High School. 

Acting Career

He developed interest in acting while still in primary school. 

Back in the 90s, he featured in a play called Mistake, which aired on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). While in high school, he also actively participated in the drama club activities.

Upon completing high school, he successfully auditioned for Jicho Four Productions, a company that specializes in traveling to different high schools to act on set books.

In 2005, he left Jicho Four to pursue main stage acting at the Kenya National Theatre. He acted in a number of plays before leaping in the highly competitive film industry. This was followed by auditioning for a number of roles where he only got few roles as extras. He acted as an extra in a number of Kenyan films including Shika Pata Potea, Crazy Kenyans and Makutano Junction.

He made his international debut in the film industry when he acted in the comedy Taking The Flak on BBC. He got a chance to play as the rebel leader in the film. 

 In 2010, he landed a role in a film called Lost in Africa. Soon after this, he landed a role in what was then a prominent Kenyan series called Mali. 

 In 2013, he also got a significant role in the series Kona. He also got a role in The Boy who Harnessed The Wind, a Netflix acclaimed movie. 

The superstar also acted in one of the best Kenyan films Sue Na Jonnie, which was a very entertaining show. He also got roles in other shows including Skandals and Warembo Salon.

In 2010, he got the opportunity to act as Pablo in the thriller 40 Sticks which was streamed worldwide by Netflix.

Robert also played a role in the play The Perfect Wedding. It is a humorous play where he plays the best man to the groom and has to step in to save the groom when he finds himself in a compromising situation on his wedding day. 

In 2021, he also got a role in the new Citizen TV drama series named “Zora” which replaced Maria. He plays the role Fela and is doing an amazing job so far.

Apart from acting, he enjoys boxing. It was his boxing that got him the chance to act in Kona. 

Awards

In 2020, the veteran actor bagged some awards thanks to his role as Pablo in the thriller Forty Sticks. They are:

  • Kisima Music Film Award for Best Actor in a leading role.
  • Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in A Leading Role.
