Kenya is one of the top investment hubs in the region and home to world class luxury hotels, some of them dating back to the early 1990s.
This article takes a look at a number of luxury hotels in Nairobi and their owners. This list contains just a few of these hotels but Nairobi is home to hundreds of luxury hotels some of which will not feature in this article, such as, Serena Hotel, Sarova Stanley, Giraffe Manor, Radison Blue hotel, Inter Continental, La Maison Royale, DusitD2 and Safari park hotel and Casino.
Villa Rosa Kempinski
This is an ultra-luxury, ultra-modern beautiful hotel with 200 rooms and suites distributed throughout its 10 floors. The hotel nestled in Nairobi’s commercial centre is about half an hour drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
It features a spa with two couples rooms, a relaxation area, a lounge, outdoor heated pool, Jacuzzi among other amenities. The hotel belongs to Adil Popat, a businessman and son to late Abdul Karim Popat, who went into history as a leading storied tycoon.
Ole Sereni Hotel
Owned by placid view properties, Ole Sereni is an African themes hotel close to the Jomo Kenyatra International Airport, Wilson Airport and Nairobi International Airport. The hotel caters for both large and small groups for business, conference and leisure.
Guests enjoy a scenic view of the Nairobi National park as it overlooks the only park within the city. The hotel has an outdoor pool, two restaurants and a health club offering massages, sauna, aerobics, steam and salon among other amenities.
The hotel is owned by Mr. Kul Bhakoo, Bobby Jandu of Allied Plumbers, Mso Dave Bola, a Zambian and Nazir Noobin, a businessman.
Crowne Plaza Hotel
Owned by billionaire Nazir Akbarali, the Crowne Plaza Hotel ranks among the best hotels in the region. According to Tripadvisor, the hotel has 144 spacious adaptable contemporarily designed rooms, with a large economic working area consisting of suites, interconnecting rooms, double and twin beds, convenient for business, family and leisure travellers.
The Boma Hotel
The luxury contemporary hotel is owned by Kenya Red Cross. The Boma Nairobi has 148 luxury deluxe guest rooms, restaurants, spa and health club and conference facilities. It is situated in an art nouveau and equipped with high end facilities and located in an ideal environment close to both the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Nairobi central Business District.
The Concord Hotel and Suites
Owned by Raheem Chatur, the hotel is located 5 km from the Nairobi National Museum and features a spa, sauna, fitness center. The guests fall in love with how immaculate and clean the hotel looks every time.
The elegantly designed hotel is within walking distance to the Diamond shopping center and has 86 rooms, each tastefully designed plus a host of delicious meals.
Golden Tulip
It is owned by Jagat Shah and is located in Westlands, Nairobi. It is an ideal environment close to shopping centers and banks, the hotel is 18km from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and 3km from the Nairobi Central Business District. The air conditioned luxury rooms are designed to suit the clients’ tastes and make them as comfortable as possible.
Hemmingways Hotel
The hotel is owned by Richard Evans and contains lofty, expansive rooms, with vast, bright, en-suite bathrooms and large private terraces. There are 45 high-ceilinged suites, two are penthouse style presidential suites and 43 junior suites culminating in vaulted beams.
Each room is named after a famous person in Kenya and around the world, such as the Meryl Strep room in the Hollywood wing. The balcony offers a panaromic view and the mouthwatering dishes are a taste out of this world world.
Tribe Hotel
The luxury hotel was co-founded by Shamim Ehsani. The hotel is located in an ideal environment and very close to the village market shopping mall. The air-conditioned rooms come with a complimentary minibar, free WIFI, standard beds and well thought out lighting. The wonderful place also has a swimming pool and a well equipped 23-hour gym.
Windsor Golf Hotel and Country club
Located in the leafy and serene Ridgeways area, the Victorian themed hotel with 130 rooms stretches out to beautiful gardens that can cater to up to 2,000 people. The hotel is a true hidden gem featuring one of the most amazing sceneries and for a long time has been the venue for a lot of high profile weddings in the country.
The hotel was owned by the late Hon. John Njoroge Michuki who passed away in 2012.
The Fairmount Norfolk Hotel
The hotel was owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Tala who later disposed the property to billionaire Nepalese lawmaker Binod Chaudhary for a whooping kes2.8 billion.
