George Theuri is a Kenyan businessman and politician who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Embakasi West Constituency.

Theuri is a member of the ruling Jubilee Party and was first elected Embakasi West MP in 2013 then as a member of The National Alliance (TNA) before successfully retaining his seat in 2017.

The second term MP has been a vocal member of the Jubilee Party and is among a group of young legislators who have been championing for the rights of the youth in this country.

Background & Education

Theuri was born on May 10, 1978.

He joined Unity Primary School between 1984 and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in 1994.

The lawmaker then proceeded to Ofafa Jericho High School, Nairobi in 1995 and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 1998.

Theuri attended the Nairobi Pentecostal Bible College between 2003 and 2005 and graduated with a Diploma in Theological and Biblical Studies.

Family

The controversial MP married his High School sweetheart, Cynthia Gitonga. The couple has three children.

“When nobody wanted to be associated with me because of my criminal activities, you proudly stood by me, when everyone else was ashamed to stand by us coz of our late son in church as I was suspended from the Bible school you stood by me,” he shared on social media while celebrating her birthday in 2017.

He appreciated her for being an amazing wife and mother to their children.

“I want the whole world to know I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH and I honor and cherish every moment with you my one and only queen,” he stated.

Career

Theuri first worked as a laundry supervisor and machine operator at Windsor Dry Cleaners Ltd. between 1999 and 2002.

This was immediately after he had finished his high school studies and was yet to join college. He also operated some side hustles at the time.

Politics

Theuri debuted in the country’s political arena in 2002 when he was elected councillor of Umoja 1 Ward. He represented members of the public of Umoja 1 at the Nairobi County Council until 2007.

He unsuccessfully contested the seat in 2007, and ventured into private business between 2007 and 2012.

In 2013, Theuri vied for the Embakasi West parliamentary seat on a TNA ticket and was elected MP. He sought re-election under the umbrella coalition, Jubilee, in 2017 and was elected for his second term.

Membership Committees

Between 2013 and 2017, Theuri was a member of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security, and also the Committee on Delegated Legislation.

From 2017, the MP has been a member of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security and also the Committee on Implementation.
