Njoki  Murira: From Selling Mtumba To Making Millions On Tik Tok

Njoki Murira is a Kenyan Tik Tok content creator whose ability to make creative, funny, and authentic videos have propelled her garner millions of followers on the Chinese owned social media platform.

Born in December 2000, she grew up in a humble single parent family as the last of five children, three girls and two boys.

She was reportedly unable to finish schooling due to their very humble background. Today, through content creation, the Thika based woman has been able to change the trajectory of her life and that of her family. 

Here is her story as told by WoK.

Getting on Tik Tok 

She used to sell mtumba and would occasionally post videos, which she made when there were no customers.

One of her videos trended and and she gained a huge following. Unfortunately, this account was banned forcing her to create another, which is about a year old.

She celebrated one million subscribers in December 2022 and in February 2023 celebrated two million followers. Currently, she has over 2.5 million followers. 

She shares various videos showcasing the village life while shaking her behind. Her sister would hold the camera for her. The two have shared various dancing videos together. 

Money on the app 

Like many young people, Murira has found a way to make money through Tik Tok. At the beginning of March, she shared a video showcasing a house she was building for her mother, proving that content creation pays. 

In a recent Q and A with fans, Murira also revealed that she has made more than Ksh3 million on the platform in less than six months. She shared a screenshot of her gift revenue to her fans. The content creator had accumulated more than 6.8 diamonds. 

“It has been 1 year now, divide the diamonds by 2 and that is the money I have earned from my live TikTok videos. Mind you I have been streaming for only 5 months now,” she said. 

She then explained that one can make money from the app through brand collaborations and directly from it. The Tik Toker then went on to reveal that she made her first million at the age of 19 and she used to work with a Norway company as a sentry.
