Two officers have been hospitalized after a lorry lost control and rammed into a police roadblock along Thika Road on the night of April 19, 2021.

The accident occurred while police officers were enforcing the 8 pm to 4 am curfew.

The lorry hit a police truck which had been parked across the road and used to barricade the Super Highway. The injured officers were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

In a video seen by WhownsKenya.com, the cabin of the police lorry was wrecked by the collision, injuring officers who had been in the vehicle.

This was the third day officers are sealing off major roads leading in and out of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

The lorries were towed away from the scene of the incident. Reasons as to why the lorry lost control are still unclear.

The incident comes a day after Pangani OCS Samir Yunus was hit by a speeding motorcycle while manning a roadblock along Dr. Griffin Road on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

He sustained head injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The rider was arrested and his motorcycle impounded.

The government has urged members of the public to strictly adhere to the mitigation measures declared in the fight against Covid-19 in the country.

On Sunday, April 18, Government Spokesperson Colonel Cyrus Oguna asked Kenyans to follow the set regulations as the country strives to flatten the Covid-19 curve.

“It is important that, as a people, we continue to observe the COVID-19 infection control and containment measures, if we are to quickly flatten the infection curve and have our lives get back to normal.

“Observing these measures include strictly respecting the curfew time which starts at 8 pm for the One Zone and 10 pm for the rest of the country. Let this be a collective responsibility,” Oguna urged.
