Kenya’s media fraternity is mourning the death of another renowned journalist.

On Wednesday, May 29, Kenyans woke up to the news of the death of veteran journalist Shadrack Mitty.

Mitty was working with the Standard Group before his death.

He died a few minutes past midnight at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

According to Citizen TV, he was suffering from blood disease for an undisclosed amount of time before his untimely passing.

Mitty was a veteran educational reporter and covered many key events such as the transition of the educational system from the 8-4-4 curriculum to the new CBC.

Standard Group Broadcast Deputy Editor Ken Mijungu mourned Mitty as a dedicated journalist and a perfect gentleman.

“A friendly team member whose contacts in the education sector made all the difference in our work. He was a good man, a perfect gentleman,” Mijungu said.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) paid tribute to Mitty and hailed him as a talented reporter.

“It is with deep sorrow that we have learnt of the death of Shadrack Mitty of KTN News. Mitty was a talented reporter who always produced balanced, informative stories on education matters,” the posted.

Mitty’s career highlights include working with the defunct QTV for five years before joining KTN News.

Mitty’s death comes months after the media fraternity lost NTV journalist Rita Tinina and former KTN News anchor Micheal Oyier.

Oyier had 20 years of experience as a journalist and was a skilled public speaker, moderator, master of ceremony, facilitator, voice-over artist, singer and actor.
